Society of African Missions (SMA)
The Superior General with one of the councilors makes an official visit (Canonical visit) to every Unit once in the mandate. Fr. Fachtna O’Driscoll, the Superior General and Fr. Francis Rozario, a General Councillor visited Polish District in Formation for ten days from November 4 to 13, 2016.
Yesterday, Thursday, during the evening mass in the chapel at the Generalate, our brother Steven Phillips renewed his commitment to SMA. Steven is a lay missionary from the US Province and is currently the English Secretary at the Generalate, a role he has had for the past 3 years.
“Peter began to say to him, "We have given up everything and followed you." Jesus said, "Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the Gospel who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age: houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come” (Mk 10 : 28-30).
The Society of African Missions (SMA) and the Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) have been working together on our response to the challenges coming from the recent migration of people to the West. As people run either away from wars and misery or towards greener pastures, many of them fall into different forms of real slavery like prostitution, cheap and dangerous labour, organ harvesting…etc.
Angola is one of least known countries in the SMA world. I visited our missions in the country from the 10th to 20th of October 2016. I would share briefly with everybody here the whole project of Angola.
27th of October is the day we SMA have chosen to celebrate, pray and reflect on the dimension of dialogue in our apostolate. This year, I have asked Isa Saliu, a priest of the diocese of Kontagora in Nigeria, and a student at PISAI (Pontificio Istituto di Studi Arabi e d’Islamistica), who resides with us at via della Nocetta, to write for us a reflection on the urgency of interreligious dialogue today and the reasons why we must dialogue with other religions.
