Family, Heart of the Mission of the Church in Africa The 17th Plenary Assembly of SECAM (Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar) was held from 18 to 25 July 2016 in Luanda, Angola under the theme "The African Family Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow in the Light of the Gospel".
The Rev. Fr. Richard Yapo Anou has expressed his gratitude to God for having served him 50 years of his life. It was during a thanksgiving Mass celebrated on August 28, 2016, in St. Louis church, Ebimpé, his native village in the town of Anyama.
The 159th anniversary of the foundation of the SMA was marked by the opening of the extraordinary jubilee of mercy. This event did not take place by coincidence but remains providential for our missionary society.

The SMA members attending the “Bridges and Confluences” session are deeply touched by this terrible attack against the many innocent people made up of families and children who came out to celebrate on the 14th of July night in nice. We strongly and firmly condemned this barbaric action and send out our sympathy and support to the victims and family members who are suffering and mourning at this moment. We pray for all of them and ask the Lord to help us all overcome hatred and the urge for vengeance and bring us find means to attain peace we yearn for.
